Despite all of the horrible and evil things she did as a vampire, I have so much sympathy and compassion for her. The last time he would pronounce his love. She feels the coven on the move, searching for their queen. This book had a very clever base idea, and certainly had potential. Okay, if it weren’t for the excellently researched vampire mythology, this book would have gotten a flat out one star.
Lenah is a conflicting creature and I very much enjoyed understanding her struggles with her inner vampire violence opposed with the need to be human. Trial by Fire Timothy Zahn.

I was left feeling unsatisfied with ddays worldbuilding, which, as it is, seemed like a good placeholder for setting while the story relied too much on our love of insta-luv paranormal romances for its commercial appeal. I let my hair down though I knew when I walked or moved anyone would be able to see it. Created a false identity maybe? The conflicts that the characters face are brutal and realistic.
Lenah Beaudonte, the year old Queen of a powerful vampire coven, is human again; given back her life by her lover Rhode, who has sacrificed himself for her. Although I’m normally not into flashback scenes, since they always keep the normal plot from moving maozel, here I absolutely loved them! Or will they find her and wreak their revenge? Rhode also gives her a crash course on technology and societal evolution. She’s very smart, and she’s aware of that. I hope he improves in book 2. She’s supposed to be five hundred rebecca old, yet she still thinks like a sixteen year old. Lenah wakes up naked on a floor, disoriented, not sure what’s up.
Only by remembering what things felt like as a human would my vampire mind understand whether I was touching something soft or hard. Justin had little to no personality and ibfinite interests outside of sports or whatever and checking out Lenah. I had retained my soul.
The only possibility to become human again is by an ancient ritual where one Vampire needs to give up his own life in order to let rebcca other Vampire life. There always have been and there always will be.
I usually feel bad giving terrible reviews, because I realise a lot of effort goes into writing the book, and a lot of the time it’s just not my kind of book. Dec 21, Apatricia rated it really liked it. Sorry, but are you serious?! There is a sneak peek of book 2 at the back which helps out if you are waiting for sequel. Only those in my coven had these words tattooed on their skin: I need to talk to someone about this, so please feel free to e-mail me with any theories or anything you want to say about those few pages.
I will continue the series dats I’m not dats looking forward to it, especially without Tony. I could see the author tried to make her sound ancient in several bits, but just because she calls something ‘curious’ it doesn’t mean that all of a sudden she’s ancient and wise.
I’ve quoted enough to give people a flavour of the writing, so will quickly run through the two stories contained in this book, as I see them.
At one point while they are still going out, sexy guy – Justin – openly ignores her to flirt very obviously with Lenah. The only senses a vampire retained were those that heightened her ability to kill; the sense of smell was linked to flesh and blood, sight was super sight, detailed down to the minutiae, its sole purpose to find prey within an instant.
But this time she’s a More Speshul Vampire. Both of whom are strong and interesting characters.
I have to admit that I was lured into wanting to read this book by its very pretty cover. She longed for mortality. I just used the T-word. The Quick and the Dirty I had a harder time with the insta-love scenarios that Tony and Justin brought to the story. No trivia or quizzes yet. Okay let’s talk about Tony! Yet she’s never experienced being a normal teenager.
