Bigger Than Life at the Edge of the City : Gene Gregorits :
Gregorits’s character continuously and violently sheds layer upon layer of human comfort, slashing his way through the phony refuge of family, romantic love, sex, drink, consumerism, social status. Gene the creation is every bit as sleazy, angry, and human as is Gene the person. He is a man with burned bridges and scarred wrists, a man whose biggest affliction is an inability to stomach the world he lives in.
He has a boundless energy and dahs fortitude, to rise above the diahrrea and rejecting the dominant narrative, and romanticizing his gdne experience.
If you like messages from the edge of insanity you will love this book, if you like looking down on those beneath you as scum you will hate this book. I personally use it as a tool to keep in daus with people I deem worthy of my time and energy, my better of friends.
As for Bukowski – if you know even a little about the man – yes, he was a first class heroic drunk but, he was also a baby and, basically – full of it.
